Which squad will my child be on?
Squad is determined by age and grade. Please see the individual cheer pages for age/grade requirements.
What equipment will I have to purchase for my cheerleader?
Vests and skirts are provided by the WPMFA.
Sample order form can be viewed on the left of this page.
We offer a fundraiser to offset the cost of cheerleading. http://wpmfa.website.siplay.com/cheerfundraiser
*Note: Vest and skirts need to be returned at the end of the season to the WPMFA. They need to be cleaned and in the same condition as they were given to you. Any damaged or stained uniforms will have to be replaced at your cost. Vests are $90.00 each and skirts are $60.00 each.
What is the time committment for cheer?
Practices begin the week of August 1st, and we practice Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 6:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. until school starts and then Tuesday and Thursday beginning on August 28th, from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.. In October, we begin practicing our dance routine, so Wednesday practices may be required.
We practice behind New Bloomfield Elementary School, in front of the pavilion beside the tennis courts. Girls should be at practice by 5:55 so we can start promptly at 6:00. If you cannot make a practice, contact the coach IN ADVANCE whenever possible. Girls who miss three practices - unexcused - may be removed from the squad. Girls who are consistently tardy for practice will receive gameday restrictions.
Parents of 1st year Smurf cheerleaders MUST stay at cheer practice. Older squad parents may leave but MUST be back 15 minutes before scheduled practice end time. DO NOT expect coaches to wait for you.
A schedule of games will be provided during the first two weeks of practice, as soon as we receive it from the CFA. Games are on Saturdays or on Sunday afternoons. Cheerleaders MUST arrive at the field ready to practice 60 minutes before their game time. Make sure you leave enough time for travel. You must sign your daughter in before each game and sign her out after each game. Girls who are consistently tardy for games will receive gameday restrictions.
In addition, parents are required to help during home games. Volunteer opportunities will be made known as soon as we have a game schedule.
It is expensive because of the costs involved in the sport, such as uniforms, safety equipment including shoulder pads and helmets, school field costs, trainer/ambulance, electricity, trash, insurance, concession costs and many other items.
