Which squad will my child be on?
Squad is determined by age and weight. If your child does not make the weight requirement for his age level, he can "play up" at the discretion of the coaches and football manager. Please see the individual football pages for age/weight requirements.
What equipment will I have to purchase for my football player?
Your child will need cleats & a girdle and pad set, including knee pads, as well as a jersey to wear to practice (an old larger t-shirt will do). All other uniform items and safety equipment will be provided for use by the WPMFA. We also provide the first mouth guard for each player, but it is your responsibility to replace it if destroyed or lost.
Is my child permitted to use his own helmet and shoulder pads?
You may purchase shoulder pads and your child may use those; however, helmets are required to be borrowed from WPMFA due to safety concerns.
What is the time commitment for football?
Practices begin on Monday during the week where August 1st falls. For the 2017 season, it begins July 31st. We practice Monday through Thursday until school starts and then Tuesday through Thursday once school is in session. Practices begin at 6:00 and last until 8 or 8:30, depending on squad. Your coach will give you the specific ending time. We practice behind New Bloomfield Elementary School. In addition, parents are required to help during home games. A schedule of games will be provided during the first two weeks of practice, as soon as we receive it from the CFA. Games are on Saturdays, or on Sunday afternoons. Scrimmages may be during regular practice times or on weekends. Again, coaches will keep you updated as they receive information.the information becomes available.
Why is it so expensive to play football?
It is expensive because of the costs involved in the sport, such as uniforms, safety equipment including shoulder pads and helmets, school field costs, trainer/ambulance, electricity, trash, insurance, concession costs and many other items.
